On The Water
If you’re anything like us, you LOVE the outdoors. When it comes to the outdoors, my number one passion is water. I grew up in rivers, lakes, ponds, creeks – you name it. From fishing to swimming, walking creeks to wading ponds, kayaking to tubing; being on the water has always been a major part of my life. It’s hard to beat the serene sound of a trickling waterfall or the fresh, natural scent of a cool breeze sweeping over a body of water. The truly amazing part is that Red River Gorge falls short on none of this, which is why I call it home. If you’re here to visit, or here to stay, we’ve got a great list of all the “must do’s” on the water here in the Gorge.
ThrillsVille – The Gorge Underground
This amazing adventure allows participants to kayak or take a tour boat through a gorgeous underground cave known as “The Gorge Grotto”. Caves in Kentucky usually range in the 55-60 degree range, so a light jacket is recommended! Visit https://www.thrillsville.org today to book your reservation for this memorable adventure.
Mill Creek Lake
Located directly off Hwy. 11 – this amazing fishing hole comes highly recommended. With towering sandstone mountains, rugged overhangs, and dense forest, it’s easy to understand why so many people love this location. Black crappie, bluegill, rainbow trout, bass, and green sunfish are just a few of the species that you’ll find here. You can fish offshore or in your kayak/canoe but, be sure to have a Kentucky Fishing License!
The Red River
With an enormous amount of access points and scenic views the famous Red River is rightfully one of the more popular locations in all the Gorge, offering fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and more. My wife and I consistently find ourselves walking the shore or taking a swim to cool off on a hot day here. You can take a trip with RedRiverAdventure and launch directly into the river with their one of their guides or bring your own vessel and launch from the Copperas Creek canoe launch.
While most people’s number one goal is to have fun, your top priority should always be safety. Water is a very powerful entity and should never be taken lightly. The team at StayOver regularly practices safe adventuring and we highly suggest you do the same.
