    Pet-Friendly Red River Gorge Guide

Red River Gorge is a great place to explore with your dog. Here's what to know about trails, rules and where to stay—then browse our pet-friendly Red River Gorge cabins.

    Leash rules in the Gorge

Dogs are welcome in the Red River Gorge Geological Area and Natural Bridge State Resort Park, but they need to stay on a leash. Keep your dog close on narrow ridgelines and near cliff edges, many of which have no railings. Rules can change, so check the Forest Service and park pages before you go.

    Dog-friendly hikes to start with

Shorter, well-used trails work best for most dogs: the Sky Bridge loop, Chimney Top Rock, Whittleton Arch and the Original Trail at Natural Bridge are all popular choices. Skip ladders and steep scrambles, and bring plenty of water—not every creek is safe to drink from.

    Safety tips

Check paws for burrs and ticks after every hike, watch for copperheads on warm days, and avoid midday summer heat on exposed sandstone. Pack waste bags and carry them out. Know where the nearest emergency vet is before your trip.

    Picking a pet-friendly cabin

Every cabin's pet policy, dog limit and any pet fee is listed on its page and comes straight from our booking system. Look for fenced or open yard space, a covered porch and a location close to the trails you plan to hike.
